The ARRIS MG1 is a versatile whole home hybrid QAM/IP media server capable of supporting local video encoding and multiple IP clients. Content sharing and home networking are supported by Ethernet and MoCA 2.0 interfaces. The product also supports dual transcode for use with external devices as well as a removable HDD for content storage.

The MG1 incorporates an industry leading 3000+ DMIPS processor supported by 256MB of Flash and 1GB of SDRAM. A CableCARD™ conditional access system provides for decryption of up to 6 QAM streams. An additional 2 QAM demodulators are available for fast channel change to enhance user experience.

The DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem supports 8 downstream and 4 upstream bonded channels for IP connectivity to the MG1 and attached IP set-top boxes or other home devices. The MG1 also includes a removable HDD that can be sized from 500GB to 2TB to suit operator needs. In addition, an eSATA port allows for HDD expansion.

The MG1 provides dual switched HDMI input ports to support source devices such as Blu-ray players with the overlay of local graphics on to content. CEC is implemented to allow control of devices connected to the HDMI input and output ports.
